Master of Arts Degree in Economics (Full Time) applications
The Department of Economics invites applications for admission into a 2-year Collaborative Masters Degree Programme in Economics at Chancellor College.
The Programme, which is jointly offered by the University of Malawi and the African Economic Research Consortium (www.aercafrica.org), is delivered in two components. Students spend their first year doing coursework before embarking on thesis preparation under supervision of senior faculty in the second year. The coursework year is split into semesters, with first semester devoted to core courses (Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Econometrics and Policy Analysis and Economic Management) which are covered while in residence at Chancellor College in Zomba. The second semester is undertaken at a Joint Facility of Electives in Nairobi, where lectures in Applied Economics courses are delivered by renowned academics from the continent and beyond. The facility draws students from leading Universities in Anglophone Africa (except South Africa and Nigeria).
Applicants should have a strong first degree majoring in Economics from a recognized institution. Those with a solid background in quantitative methods will have an added advantage. Under the auspices of the AERC, the department of economics offers a limited number of partial scholarships to outstanding candidates. Applicants are however encouraged to identify other sources of funding.
Applicants should submit a complete application dossier which must include the following: One application letter, a detailed CV, certified copies of certificates, original academic transcript(s), three copies of completed application forms (University of Malawi PG1 forms to be requested from departmental secretary through email@example.com). Applicants should also indicate their source(s) of funding.
