On 11th April 2019, the college witnessed the launch of yet another book from renowned playwright, Smith Likongwe, a lecturer in the Drama section of the Fine and Performing Arts Department. The new book is entitled Kamuzu Banda and Other Plays and has been published by Chancellor College Travelling Theatre.

The launch was spiced by poetry performances by students, and the staging of a few scenes from the play. Likongwe took part in one of these scenes, showcasing his skill not just as a playwright, but also as an actor.

Talking during the launch, Likongwe emphasized the point that the material in Kamuzu Banda, which is in three acts, was well researched, and could therefore be taken as a valuable historical resource. He spent over 2 years researching and writing the play.

The playwright, who has written over 150 plays, feels that as Africans, we must rise up to tell our stories, instead of waiting for others to tell them for us. This is part of what spurred him to write the play on Kamuzu.

Present at the event were the Deputy Dean of Humanities, Dr Mervis Kamanga, and the Dean of Science, Assoc. Prof. Chomora Mikeka. Both of them bought copies of the new book.
