The department of History is one of the oldest departments at Chancellor College. It is home to a diverse compliment of staff, some of whom are among the most renowned in the discipline.
It offers students a broad historical education, focusing on how the world today has come to be as it is. The approach of lessons in the History department focuses on various perspectives of human history, from the political, the social, the economic and the intellectual.
Curricula in the department are designed in such a way that they provide students with a balanced understanding of past developments in Africa and similar developments elsewhere in the world. The department emphasises thematic, cross-cultural and comparative approaches to history.
